Each and every active domain name is registered on the name of a person and through the registration process many details are introduced - the owner’s names, address, e-mail, cell phone number, etc. This information combined with the registrar company name and the registration/expiration dates is called WHOIS of the domain name and in agreement with the policies of Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) it should be current and accurate. If an Internet domain has wrong WHOIS details, it might be reported and if the details aren't fixed, the domain name can be erased or the registrar company could take over its ownership. By default, the WHOIS info is public and may be seen on numerous lookup sites, or for a smaller number of country-code extensions - on the Internet sites of the respective Registry organizations. All companies that provide registration services are obliged to provide an effective way for their customers to access and change the WHOIS information of any Internet domain they own as much as the particular TLD allows it.
